"People end up in Newcastle Village looking for the Town Hall", hç said. He said there would be some major costs as for the Town of Newcastle but it was time to make the Change. Mayor Hubbard said she would have to hold her breath on this one. She said the Town of Newcastle Newcastle came abo.ut through a contest e • e and that, in fact, the name is a jurisdictional name. She said she didn't expect the province would allow a name change. Further to major costs for the Town she said a name change would affect everyone, all birth certificates, certificates, deaths records and a host of other large costs for businesses and industry. Counc. Hamre said she could not support the proposal as the costs would be horrendous. "It's a no win situation," she said. "Only time will resolve the confusion". ■ Counc. Stapleton said it would be a waste of money. "Residents know where they live and it is an honour to be called Newcastle". Counc. Deegan disagreed to the cost for local businesses and suggested suggested the issue be placed on the ballot. Counc. Hannah said a change could add to the confusion at this point. He said the Town was like the Region with its individual municipalities. "We have worked hard to maintain the identity of all centres in the Town," he said. "It can't be dealt with like this." Counc. Wotten said he could not support the name change. "It's been the Town of Newcastle for 15 years and the cost is just too much," he said. 1 felt I would stir up a hornets nest," said Hooper. "It's really a matter for the province to deal with", he said, "they're passing the, buck". ' ' He also spoke of a number of letters letters supporting a name change.
